Doctor Who Thread

I'm not sure if this existed before, but since I've slowly been getting into Doctor Who more and more, and most of our members are Whovians, I decided to make this.

So, Matt Smith is going to leave the series after the Christmas special of 2013! Who do you think should replace him?

I've heard rumor of Zac Effron
I get the feeling if it happens, a lot of Whovians will rage quit.
I am not a Whovian, to be clear. I haven't seen thw show, as I haven't the time, nor a way to access all of the show.
I would probably try and watch if someone would show me a place that has the entirety of the series that isn't a torrent site.

Ynot, is that Efron thing true? O.o Ah, the entirety of the series takes a while. Not sure what sites stream it other than Netflix, though.

If anyone reading this wants to start watching it, I'd start at what they call "Series One" which started in 2005 with Christopher Ecclestone as the Ninth Doctor. You don't need to know a lot of what happens canonically before that as it isn't mega-important to the plot, plus some of it is recapped and explained along the way.

Netflix has 6 seasons under Dr. Who, and a bunch of extraneous smaller bits that I am not sure if they overlap

Lol. It was the other way round. It started off really well and then lapsed into uniquely stupid ideas like Wi-Fi aliens and the Doctor blowing up a sun with a leaf.

I'll miss Smith though. He was a worthy successor to Tennant.

So today I finished watching all four seasons of Torchwood, Doctor Who's most notable spinoff series targeted at adults.

As I already said, I'm a Whovian who saw literally all of the Russell T Davies era live on TV from 2005 to 2010, and I was hooked. Little Kon absolutely adored this series, and it was a major part of his childhood. That being said, I was aware of the existence of Torchwood at the time, but my parents said in 2006 that I was probably too young to watch it (I was 9 or 10 when the first season aired), so I didn't. They however, saw them all and were huge fans.

Last month my brother (who lives and breathes Who), ordered the whole Torchwood boxset to add to his collection, so I thought, eh why not I'll watch them. Like most TV series, the first season was the best... it stopped being Welsh but it didn't stop being brilliant. The whole experience was like a nostalgia trip, with many elements and events (such as the Doctor's hand in the first series, Martha Jones in the second etc) linking directly into the Doctor Who plots that were running alongside at the time.

So yeah, I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoyed this era of Who... but be warned, it is for adults lol. There's certainly no shortage of alien sex, gay sex, swearing and violence.

P.S. The last season, Miracle Day, was aired in 2011 during Doctor Who's Matt Smith era. Season 5 was scheduled for this year, but was put on indefinite hiatus because Russell T Davies' partner fell ill and he had to fly back to Wales. The company who co-produced Miracle Day, "Starz", has said that they're ready to continue when he is. I hope he is soon...

Did anyone else here watch The Day of the Doctor? What did you think of it? I loved it, especially those cameos...

I quite enjoyed it. It was hardly Moffat's best work, but very good and a worthy 50th anniversary celebration. I'm glad Gallifrey's back, too, because I always thought the Time War was a stupid idea.

I won't be seeing the Christmas special for another two weeks, though.

It actually inspired me to go and watch Series 5-7. I'm halfway through 5 and I must admit I'm enjoying it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would. Amy's Choice is the best in the series so far IMO.

And in that case you better avoid most of the internet for the next two weeks then, mate

Series 5 is actually good, yeah. Moffat didn't get truly, truly terrible until after A Good Man Goes to War.

So, has everyone here who cares seen the Christmas special by now?
