    Ferrets Webcomic review

Post by Ferret-X on Fri Jun 21, 2013 4:04 pm

OKAY LET'S GET THIS STARTED AND HOPE WE'RE IN THE RIGHT CHUNK OF FORUM!
    YEAH!
Okay figured I'd live up to my title. Right.
WEBCOMICS. I read too many. Sooo recs and reviews. IDK Fridayish sound good to you peeps? Fridays it is. Some of these are going to be more obscure than others. I'll just go off my read list and worry about finding new ones when that runs out. Which will take awhile : P

Funny thing is the first one I wanna do UPDATES on Fridays. Wow!

It's called Prequel (or Making a Cat Cry: The Adventure)

First Page Home Page/Newest Page About Page

Updates: Fridays, fairly reliably. Updates are long. Also possible to view part of update in advance on the MSPAforums.

Format: it's one of the "MS Paint Adventures" inspired comics. Panel, words, panel, words. It's also follows the format of early MSPA things such as Jailbreak! or Problem Sleuth in that it's possible for readers to submit prompts.

Art: Flat colored digital. Not jaw droppingly gorgeous, but it's getting extremely adorable as time goes by. Even at the beginning it's not eye-gougingly ugly. Functional.

Writing: Seems pretty good to me? Engaging story, large walls of text, No egregrious grammar errors.

Setting: In the world of Elder Scrolls, but it's totally unneccessary to have played the games for comprehension. (It's in Cyrodiil specifically)

Genre: Uh...fantasy with humor, character based. Really funny but at the same time may well make you have FEELINGS. (ono) Overall it's a story about hope and keeping your head up. Or maybe it's just about torturing a cat person. Whatever works.

Rating: PG13? No uncensored nakey people or extreme gore (I don't think???) but some mature topics. Some blood.

Archive Length:  Mid lengthish? Enough there to be reading material for a few days (or a night depending), but not a several week long endeavor.

Completeness: Well the 'plot' is just starting to really get kicked off. I think it's still got a long ways to go before finishing.

Okay following stuffs is under spoiler tags because it's stuff you'd only know from reading the comic. If you're interested from the above stuff check it out with the links or keep reading :3

    STORY OR SOMETHING IDK:

Basically all the action centers around Katia, an alcoholic khajit (cat furry) who has the worst luck in the world. She's been plagued by crippling nightmares about royalty since she was small which led to her family having to stop working in a castle and move to the country. They resent her for this. Her only real goal in life was to be a wizard, but for whatever reason Katia seems to have no magic power to speak of.
This has led to the adult Katia being a total bum. She has no real saleable skills (except for a NSFW party trick), survives by a combination of sleeping around, gettng arrested, and generally hoping for the best. She moves to Cyrodiil with nothing but the rags on her back in hopes of turning her life around. This...goes about as well as you'd expect. Every time Katia makes a step forward she rolls back down a landing of stairs.
Even if she does get any material possessions she gets robbed. Someone tries to send her a nice present they get murdered (and the gift stolen en route). She has a sandwich it gets thrown on the ground. Et cetera. Things do SLOWLY get better for Katia though. She (sorta) makes friends, she learns she DOES have magic power (even if it's uncontrollable), she even learns some non skanky skills!
The "plot" is starting to emerge as Katia trying to figure out just what is behind the nightmares about kings she's had her whole life.

TL;DR: CUTE CATGIRL FAILS HILARIOUSLY AT LIFE

Glad to see that you moved forward with this idea. I have read some of Prequel, and it is quite enjoyable.

Why thank you Klak, popular demand you know U.U

    OKAY TODAY'S IS CALLED
    Ava's Demon

    Home Page/First Page

Updates: Thursdays, very reliable but late in the day. 'batch' updates

Format: One panel per page, with traditional word ballons End of chapters have animations.

Art: Rather gorgeous digital, very cartoony.

    Writing: Pretty good.

Setting: Science fiction in that it's multi-world and there are spaceships, fantasy in that there are ghosts and weird magic stuff going on.

    Genre: Very definitely story based.

Rating: Some swearing, some genocide, some gore. I don't think there's been any nudity?? Either way not like gore and nudity or even swearing for the sake of it.

Archive Length: Manageable? It's got over 500 pages, but since each 'page' is really just a panel...

Completeness: Still in fairly early stages of the plot. The main characters haven't really solidified as a group yet.

    Synopsis:

It all starts with Ava, a girl in school and her 'demon' who seems to be a spirit that only she can see. She gets called into the office for causing a ruckus and another girl is there complaining about her stalker. Then the fire nation attacks or rather these mechs called 'scavengers' that destroy the planet. Ava and the other girl only narrowly get away because the other girl, Maggie's stalker basically kidnaps Maggie by dragging her onto his spaceship and Ava sneaks on.
Maggie gets p'o'd and uses crazy plant powers to force the ship into a crash landing on a nearby world.
    Ava dies in the crash.
It gets revealed that her 'demon' is actually an alien war queen by the name of Wrathia who was torturing Ava because she was hoping that if Ava died she'd get attached to someone else who was less pathetic. Wrathia has been (doing a horribly botched job of) trying to make a 'pact' with Ava. In the 'pact' they'll both try to grant the others wish. Ava's was to live, and Wrathia's was to take revenge on the overlord who destroyed her own kingdom. This grants Ava the ability to puke lava which she wakes up doing.
Enter Gil, a follower of Titan the overlord Ava is now sworn to defeat. He too has a 'demon', and is the doctor that treated all three of them after the crash.
That's about where current updates are.

TL;DR:Girl soul-bonded with annoying demon queen.

    Today we have...

    Cucumber Quest

    Home Page

Updates: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sundays

Format: Normal comic pages, story based. Parodies fantasy tropes.

Art: An extremely cute lineless cel-shaded cartoon style

Setting: Fantasy kingdom populated by cute bunny people. Spoofs a lot of fantasy tropes.

    Rating:
    G! EVERYTHING IS BUNNIES FOREVER

Archive Length: 361 pages as of posting.

    Completeness: Main plot is underway.

    Story:
Cucumber just wants to go to magic school, but the evil queen has summoned the wicked Nightmare Knight! His father tells him that he has to drop everything, find an enchanted sword and defeat the evil!
He's not very thrilled with this plan.
Cucumber's little sister Almond meanwhile wants to be nothing more than a knight and save the day! He gives her the sword, but then it turns out they need the signatures of various princesses to even use the damn thing. This leads to them setting out on a quest to rescue the various princesses from the Knightmare Night's minions, but in the process they find out that these events have played out many times before and the best any one group manages is to seal the Knight again...

TL;DR: cute bunny people and varyingly effectual villains

No review this week because I'm working on my own webcomic /o/

    Blue Comiks

It's about Blue primarily, and a lot of other characters of mine, many of which have shown up in our humble BZPB RPG!

...it's only got two pages up though...and I'm sure you've all heard about it from Skype....
    Still, there it is.
