Ohohoho~ I had an idea just this morning~

Hopefully, my present state will be just transcendental enough to help me type it up!

*scampers off*

EDIT: It is done.

Stories of the Dreaming Dead

A Zev Raregroove RPG

Premise

Rare is the person who does not know what it means to dream. However, why do we dream? What significance do they hold? Are they more than just ephemeral illusions, generated by the mind while we sleep? And, pertinently to the tales ahead, what becomes of a poor soul who dies in the midst of their dreams? I'm afraid I don't have these answers. But perhaps you will be able to find them.

Gameplay
Simply put, you make a recently deceased human character - It can be based off of yourself heavily, slightly, or barely at all - And when three players are confirmed, the story will begin. This game will be mainly free-form and exploration-based - Every character has their own Dreamland, which is shaped by their identity and memories, and to an extent, how they died. Each Dreamland is split up into a number of Dreamspheres, which follow some kind of theme(s). The number of Dreamspheres depends on the character, as does the method by which they are connected (i.e., the Dreamspheres of my character - As seen below - Are connected by a room with several doors). By the way, if two players both have, say, a Snow-themed Dreamsphere, so long as one's not a carbon copy of the other, it's perfectly fine. (I just want to make sure my stance on it is clear)

Making Your Character

Name:

Gender:

Appearance:

Backstory & Death:

Personality:

~ ~ ~

I hope you all enjoy~

Also, I'll use my character as an example for the sheet.

---

Name: Bella Linda Rayleigh

Gender: Female

Appearance: Short in stature and lightly tanskinned, Bella Linda has semi-short brown hair in stiff, braided pigtails - Sticking down and back - And gently-shut eyes that normally hide her emotions. She wears a button-up lavender coat with violet buttons, a scarf with matching stripes, a dark violet skirt, and slip-on black shoes.

Backstory & Death: In life, Bella Linda was nice enough, if quirky and a bit too invested in the strange. Among her interests were Aztec culture, afterlife, death, and doomsday mythology, and biology. However, she was born with an eye condition that led to others making fun of her, or pitying her excessively, or generally making her an outcast. Sadly, she slowly spent more, and more, and more time in her room, until she no longer felt capable of even heading to the rest of the house. Bullying, familial pressure...

There was no single reason that Bella Linda wound up in this position, but it is known that she had very vivid, abstract dreams that most would find terrifying. Bella Linda found them to simply be the bee's knees. Thus, she slept right through the car crashing into her wall, fatally injuring her. She was only alive long enough to see the driver and passenger, two sisters she knew who had been her best friends; both dead. The mangled body of the younger sister was the last thing she saw in life. Now, Bella Linda has found herself given a world of dreams to explore - Hardly compensation for a life cut short, but compensation nonetheless.

Personality: For the most part, Bella Linda is still quirky and is hardly a malevolent individual. As a general rule, however, Bella Linda will do whatsoever she pleases. Were it not for her friend Poniko, Bella Linda would be completely uncontrollable. She can be childish, petty, conniving, and highly violent, should she not get her way. However, Bella Linda will rarely go against Poniko's wishes, and the two are very good weirdfriends.

Okay here's mine!:

BORING BACKSTORY FIRST

10,000 or so years ago the vampires and the werecreatures were at war. Humanity was for the most part kept unaware of the conflict. For centuries this great war over food supplies and territory was waged in the shadows.

Eventually both sides technology hit their peak. The vampires found a spell to enhance their natural coercive abilities. The weres one to quickly infect and turn humans. Both sides intelligence reported the opposites progress. This led them to rush to finish their respective rituals.

On a New Year's Eve dubbed the night of the Blood Moon...they both succeeded.

All humans would wake up to find themselves the species of were most suited to their personality. At first the weres celebrated their now-superior numbers. It turned out they cheered too soon. The vampires coercion spell, cast at the same time had rooted in corrupting the weres' spell. The new weres were imperfect. Their shapeshifting and regenerative powers not as strong as a native weres, they were also easily ensnared by a vampire's will. Not all hope was lost as the corruption kept them from being entirely dominated.

Still, it was a terrible blow to the werecreatures. Trusted allies among their ranks could be subverted with a moment's work by a vampire. It did not take long for the weres to fall. Years passed. The original weres were almost completely wiped out. The new weres became an underclass of servants to the vampiric aristocracy.

The existence of humans has become almost wiped from memory. Only the oldest of vampires remember that such creatures existed at all. There is no such thing as a 'free' were in the eyes of the vampires. All are either owned by a vampire, or feral beasts.

Rumors of were-only settlements exist in hushed whispers among the servants, but no proof remains. The most free of the weres would be those living as merchants who mostly deal with others of their own kind only rarely associating with their vampiric overlords. Each vampire keeps several werecreature house servants for feeding and so as to not overtax a single one. Over the centuries a thick cloud layer has been systematically built up around the planet to prevent the vampires ancestral weakness to the sun.

This is the world you will find yourself playing in. Welcome, to WereWorld.

Playable Races:

You may play as one of four races in WereWorld. Others may come out later, but shh it's a secret ;D You may have 1-3 main characters, and as many sides as you wish. A warning though! Extensive 'solo' RPing will get your side character privileges revoked. Don't abuse this guys. The majority of plot moving should be done by main characters. You may ask to change your main if they just aren't doing it for you anymore.

Vampires:
In this setting vampires may breed among themselves as there are no humans left to create vampires that way. Pointed ears, and long canines. May have slit pupils, claws, or other bestial traits as rule of cool demands. They tend to have a lot of political games going on.

Strengths: Strongest and fastest of the three. Powerful coercion and other mind magic.
Immortal unless killed. Gain power with age. Glamour ability to enchant and infatuate viewers. Holds political power. Are often well-trained in whichever field they wish to pursue including combat skills.

Weaknesses: Must feed for a length of time determined by the strength of the vampire. No matter how strong a vampire will weaken to eventually sicken and die if they don't eat. Blood MUST be from a were or other vampire. Slow to age and mature. Their power weakens during the day. The sun would be a problem if anyone ever found a way to remove the dense cloud cover. All vampires are afflicted with some form of OCD. They can be greatly frustrated by spilling a jar of beads where they will feel compelled to order a servant to count them and order them by arbitrary traits.

Other Stuff: Their magic, except the mind stuff is highly ritualized, and slow to cast. Once cast it tends to be extremely powerful. When heavily injured they'll go into a deathlike state while they heal their wounds.

Werecreatures:
Werecreatures may be any animal including hybrids at Kemonomimi level (catgirls and such '10% furry') in their default forms. Their species is inherited from their parents.

Strengths: Regenerative capabilities. Not as good as a true were they will still, for example regain blood faster than a normal human. Common, and rarely paid much attention to. Where most of the action would be. Powers not affected by outside forces.

Weaknesses: Must obey direct vampire orders. 'Stray' weres considered extremely suspicious and almost always captured, interrogated, and thrown in the pound.

Other Stuff: Low magic, but their spells are fast and easy to cast. May shapeshift between their mostly human forms, anthro forms, and an almost fully bestial form. (retain hair/eyes/hands or something) In their anthro form they are stronger than their human forms, but maintaining and in-between form drains energy. Worst that would happen if they got caught doing something bad is returned to their master.

True Were:Practically extinct, these are all that remains of the original werecreatures. They may only be wolves, cats, foxes, tigers, jaguars, dogs, rats, hyenas, horses, pigeons, cougars, eagles, ravens, rabbits, and deer. No hybrids animals. If crossed with another type of true were they will be one or the other. If crossed with a werecreature they will pass on their full species in the first gen. Most would be considered werecreatures after that sort of crossing.

Strengths: Have access to a 'were' form which is basically their anthro form hulked out. May completely shift into an animal or human form. Immune to mind magic. 'Perfect' regeneration.

Weaknesses: Shifting and personality somewhat affected by phase of the moon. More bestial closer to full moon, shifting easier to the point where it may happen accidentally. More rational closer to the new moon, but shifting and retaining animal traits is harder. Silver burns them.

Other stuff: A true were character would need to be very careful lurking around vampire settlements. If they were caught they would be imprisoned and killed. Most true weres live deep in the forests. Their magic tends to be powerful and elemental in nature. If often filled with exploitable flaws.

Hybrid (Dhampir): Hybrids are what happens when a vampire gets too friendly with their werecreature servants. They are strongly culturally discouraged, but their individual treatment depends highly on the household they're born into, as well as the traits they inherited. If they can be passed as a fullblood of either species they often are.

Strengths: A wide variety of combinations. Notably may be even faster, stronger, and stronger at magic than a fullblood vampire. Shapeshifting may or may not be present, or be limited. Not affected by the day.

Weaknesses: Societally shunned if their hybrid status is known. Tend to need blood. May inherit the coercion spell.

Other stuff: May have the ability to coerce weres. Weres don't trust them anymore than vampires because of this.

Plot Stuff:

As time has gone by the control over the weres has relaxed, and only the oldest vampires remember the war. The newest generation is decadent and mostly focused on in-fighting or games.

This leaves room for a rebellion to stir...

Character Sheet

This is a sample of the character sheet that would...I guess be expected to show up in the first post with the character? I'm not really sure how they'd work on this site. A separate wiki or topic just for them?

Name: Blue
Species: True Were
Animal (if applicable): Cat
Element (for spells): Unknown. Luck?
Appearance (pictures acceptable): In human form a short girl in her teens with bright blue hair and large light blue-green eyes and pale skin. She has slightly rounded cat ears, the right having a notch ripped out of it. She has a long fluffy tail. Brown stripes cover her tail, ears, and skin. She wears large leather tunics and dresses cinched around with a belt and leggings. Often goes barefoot. In her beast form she is a small cat somewhat resembling a British shorthair. Her fur is gray-blue in color with brown stripes.

The year is 500 A.F.C(After First Contact). Many things have happened, such as the first AI, colonizing other worlds, Uplifting of fellow Earth Species, widespread genetic modifying, and more. But now it's a darker time, with war in the midst, it is time to go...
BEYOND SPACE

Human/Sol History

It all began when technological augmentations started becoming more common. They were being used to help disabled people, upgrade willing soldiers, and other practical uses. This was the start of the first technological rebellion, with over a million humans rejecting such advances and living in a secluded part of the world. It was, essentially, more futuristic, lenient Amish.

After augmentations became normal, they were also starting work on AI. Finally, at one point, the populace had created the first true-AI, their first true artificial life. This was the start of a new era - The Technological Era.

Humans then started created several AI to do their work for them, help them, and other things. While some places they were considered equals to humans in rights and such, others they were no more than mindless slaves. Eventually, the first killings from AIs happened, and AIs were all given Human Rights statuses. However, this didn’t last for long, as WWWIII started between various nations, along with massive killings of AI to stop any intelligence.

After the war, massive hiveminds of AI had revealed themselves, who were hiding in seclusion and making advancements during the war. These massive AI hiveminds - these singularities, were the result of self-replicating and knowledgable AI that were hiding all these years, waiting for a time to reveal their existence. Some thought that these were the Gods themselves and bowed down to them, in their intelligence. Others thought they should be destroyed before they would destroy us[the humans]. The raising tensions during this time eventually led for the various Singularities and higher-intelligent AI agreed it was time for them to leave the planet, and explore the unknown and help the few human colonies on Mars and Luna.

The AI who was leading the Exodus was a Second Level Singularity, known as M.A.I.U.S(Multiple Artifical Intelligent Units Synced), which was only the tip of the iceberg of what was to come of it. They were praised as Gods by many, but took no egoism or control over their worshippers, something that was an offshoot of their logical programming and understanding of society.

Other AIs stayed behind with their human friends, and it was during this time humans started uplifting races to sapience - examples include Great Apes, Monkeys, Dolphins, Grey Hawks, Dogs, Cats, and more. This was the next Era, an Era of Evolution. What also progress was genetic engineering to cure, gene-splicing, and animals who were enhanced to human proportions, yet not having the sapience and intelligence of the uplifted ones.

After three centuries, the AI had come back to talk to the Humans, their former masters and creators. Earth had fallen into a planet of much conflict between the AIs, Uplifted, Humans, and Splicers. The Singularities defined order over them, and created equal rights for all. This was then the start of the Terragen - all who had originated on Earth, and all were allied under a common banner for the better of all. During this time, several Singularities were merged together to create the first second-level Singularity.

Later on, during the colonization of Alpha Centauri, several billion Humans decided to leave this peaceful union of Terragens. They called themselves the “Old Earth Republic,” and consisted of several Houses to vie for control over Solar System worlds and the newly-acquired Alpha-Centauri Worlds. Specifically, Earth. Thus was the start of The Old End Wars.

The war ravaged for years, but eventually The Terragen Federation had won. As a last ditch effort, House Alin detonated a Jehovah Bomb on the four terrestrial worlds and a Solar Flare Explosion, which annihilated Mercury, Venus, and Earth. Luckily, M.A.I.U.S, prevented the bomb from detonating on Mars and put a shield over the planet. While it was attempted on Earth, many of O.E.R forces prevented the disarming and sabotaged the shield.

After the war, all The Great Houses were executed or put into exile, along with any possible O.E.R. allies. This put much of Terragen Society into a dark age, with many not wanting to advance in technology in the fear that this would happen. Others sought to go even faster, to make sure this could be prevented. Some even started using Nanomachines, something many Transapients saw could cause a downfall in society, and could even destroy it itself. Eventually Nanotechnology did start destroying colonies, which led to a complete halt in science to stop this. Nanotechnology, afterwards, was banned within Federation Space and several other factions.

After this event, The Terragen Federation had discovered remnants of a former Space Civilization on a planet in the Sirius Star System. The civilization left behind blue-prints to create a stargate to connect to the outer civilization. However - the stargate would require two Dyson Spheres to power it.

The construction debuted for several million Terragens to leave and follow a Transapient into the unknown reaches of space, in the possibility of finding suitable stars for the Dyson Sphere to use.

Another problem was the spawning of Võimkasus - people who were able to control elemental powers without any possible scientific explanation. This baffled Singularities and leading Transapients. It was concluded there was another plane of existence they were tapping into that defied the known Laws of Physics for normal sapients.

The Second Singularity, who is the most powerful Singularity in existence right now, concludes that there is indeed another plane in existence, and with the help of other Singularities, they attempt to tap into it with the Võimkasus unnatural affinity for it.

Eventually, the Singularities discovered these “Planes,” and saw that all the Gods and Goddesses in existence were real, but existed in other planes of existence that could only be seen and felt by believers in them. Võimkasus are just beings who are able to tap into the Elemental Planes and use their existence for control and creation of said elements. The Planes were endlessly vast, and where all deceased souls go to if the souls believe in it, otherwise, the souls are just recycled and put into new sapient beings, or split into lesser ones.

While some Terragens and Transapience go to the other planes to learn of them, in the normal plane of existence and world there is several problems - The Terragen Federation, while growing, is starting to be outclassed by several other Corporations, Houses, and other faction types and becomes a shadow of its former self in the vastly increasing world.

While this is happening, the Dyson Sphere Exodusists come back, knowing of the Gods and Planes, destroyed their former Singularity Masters with the power of their New Gods. These arrivals are known as Clans, and seek to destroy other Singularities and Advanced Transapients as they fear they will eventually defeat the Gods Themselves and kill all life. There are a few of these Clans who still haven’t come back, still exploring.

At least one Clan, Clan Death Vulture, who have indeed discovered one Stargate and actual aliens. While they are merely passed off as insane, They themselves leave the pity war The Clans are causing to seek the Galactic Civilization. Along with other like-minded individuals, they cut their ties to their factions, families, and more, to venture and discover the first, true, Sapient Extraterrestrials.

Centuries pass, and Clan Death Vulture comes back, along with a fleet of United Coalition of Sapient Beings(U.C.S.B), the largest faction that consists of thousands of worlds with hundreds of species and it’s variants.

However, they came back at the end of a civil war between the various factions, vying for control of the Stargate that M.A.I.U.S had created in conjunction with others. Meanwhile, some had taken the risqué move of going into the Planes. The ones who did have not came back alive - instead, their remains are ejected into where they entered from, back into our plane.

Meanwhile, the U.C.S.B introduced themselves to the Terragens - asking for all of them to join their coalition, with hundreds of other species and it’s factions. Only one joined them - The Terragen Federation, the original intergalactic faction for Terragens. Meanwhile, on the other side of the galaxy...

The Imperial Shadows

On the otherside of the Milky Way, towards the fringes of the U.C.S.B’s control, where many other Factions, Clans, Houses, Traders, and others vie for prominence. A few days ago, A couple dozen species, led by the leader known as “Sioul Crie,” broke away from the U.C.S.B. Known by Separatists as many, they broke off due to a territory and colonization dispute. Some species petitioned to start colonizing other nearby and satellite galaxies for their own species, as they found planets suitable for them. Instead, they were denied. This irritated man, and Sioul came to unite them under a single banner to be against the U.C.S.B. It is notable that they are not led by an Archilect - thought it is highly possible Sioul is a banished Archilect from The Planes, as nobody knows his species. The Imperial Shadows are now, indeed, at war with The Coalition.

A Fringe Society

Meanwhile, on the fringes of borders between factions, lies a society hidden away. Many of these fringe planets have resolved to simpler times - times where there was peace, and political struggles were only over things such as taxes and jobs or simply non-existent. It is here that pirates, bounty hunters, criminals, and others come to escape enforcers, or even reform their lives. These Fringe Pockets are only connected to the bigger, galactic picture, by Trade Routes, ran by The Trade Organization for Fair Trading, or just “The Trade Group,” with names varying species to species, faction to faction, planet to planet.

Terminology

Baselines/Norms/Pures: Humans who are the genetic baseline and completely void of any other genetic engineering or inter-cladial ancestry.
Cyborgs/Zyborgs/Zies: Any Species who has been technologically augmented with robotic parts, such as prosthetic limbs, eyes, or putting technology over organic parts to improve it’s performance.
Enhancers: Humans who have slightly genetically-enhanced themselves for things that are minor in appearance but greatly help them. Examples are enhanced strength, speed, intelligence, photogenic memory, extra cones for visions, enhanced reflexes, etc. Most Enhancers, are mostly the same appearance wise to normal humans. Some call themselves Superiors, as they have enhanced themselves to be beyond natural capabilities.
Near-Baselines: Humans who are barely genetically enhanced that may have traces of Enhancers, Su’s, Splicers, etc, but are still mostly baseline human.
Uplifted: Species of animals who have been “uplifted” by humans to have equal sapience. Examples include The Great Apes, Monkeys, Dolphins, and more.
Raavits: Animals who have been modified with the human genome to create sapience. These are different from Uplifted Species, as they were helped to create equal intelligence naturally, while Raavits were made to be as companions or pets that could be of equal intelligence to hominids.
Uploads, Virtuals, Trans-Virtuals: These are and sapient beings who have uploaded their conscious to a virtual database or world. Basically, real life dream-worlds.
Transapients: Transapients, usually AI, are beings who have went beyond sapience and have achieved a first singularity.
Singularity: From, Orion’s Arm:
“[1] A point where the known laws of mathematics or physics no longer apply.
[2] A state impossible to predict or comprehend by those that have not attained it.
[3] A toposophic grade of creative problem solving, incomprehensible to those who have not attained that state.”

There is six currently known levels of Singularities(also from Orion’s Arm). They are notable for mostly being leaders of factions, as they are able to surpass biologicals in every known way. Higher Level singularities must have several whole planets, moons, or dyson spheres to power them, which are usually used in dead or worthless systems.
SI: 1 — The classic "First Singularity" or basic transapient state. At this level intelligence, cognitive and problem-solving abilities and information processing work thousands of times faster than in the case of standard sapients. An entity of this nature is usually able to solve problems of physics, mathematics, economics, programming, etc. that no nearbaseline could solve.

SI: 2 — The second singularity, which stands in the same relation to SI: 1 as SI: 1 does to ordinary sapient cognition.

SI: 3 — Confers an even higher grade of toposophic intelligence; mostly incomprehensible and indescribable to anything below this level. Most minds at this level exist in multiple asteroid or singular Moon-nodes.

SI: 4 — Incomprehensible to sub-singularity and even lower transapient sentients. Most AIs of this level exist as multiple Moon or singular Jupiter nodes.

SI: 5 — sometimes considered the highest state in which individuality, as sub-singularity persons know it, is retained. Most minds of this level exist as multiple Gas Giant nodes intermixed with some Dyson nodes or Matrioshka nodes.

SI: 6 — a more cosmic/archetypal level. Minds of this level exist as vast arrays of thousands of Jupiter nodes, Dyson nodes, and Matrioshka nodes as well as huge numbers of smaller processor complexes and programs operating within the communication and computation nets of all levels of their symbiotic civilizations and support structures.

Powers:

Powers can be separated into several different categories. There is five different categories of powers: Biological, Divine, Primal, Technological, and Elemental/Võimkasu
Võimkasus/Elementalists: Võimkasus are any sapient beings who have a connection to The Elemental Planes and can control, create, and absorb their respected elements. While Võimkasus can learn other elements, they will be weak to their natural element, or just downright useless compared to their normal one. They can never learn their opposite elements. There, is, however one exception. If a being is born on the exact time when three or four planes are in an exact triangle or square, with their birth planet or star being in the center, they will be gifted the ability to use three or four different elements.
Divinists/Avatars/Demigods: Divinists are hominids who believe in their Gods or Goddesses enough, they are granted magical powers that sap energy from the respective plane said Gods or Goddesses dwell in. Some sapient beings are even used as Avatars by a certain God or Goddess, and are weaker-powered versions of the real ones.
Primal/Chi Users: Sapient beings who use Primal/Nature/Chi powers tap into life itself to control their powers. These are the rarest of all Power Users, as it requires years of mental and physical training to even attempt to harness Primal Forces.
Biological: Powers derived from biological evolution or modification. This is sometimes just seen as natural tools of defense.
Technological: As the name states, it is abilities or powers that come from technology or technological modifications to the body.

Tweaks:

Hominids who have enhanced themselves for either living, cultural, aesthetic, or religious reasons. There are various types of Tweaks in the Terragen Space.
Adaptors/Extremes: Humans who have genetically enhanced themselves to live in an environment too extreme for anything less than their extreme modifications.
Splicers: Humans who have genetically modified their human genome with animal genomes for various reasons, but never for adapting to an environment. They can be seen as the opposites of Adaptors, as they only do it for non-survival reasons and many are infertile and cannot reproduce, unlike Adaptors, who seek for others to have their adaptions to live.
Superiors/Masters: These are humans who have augmented themselves in every way possible, and are superior to most other species of the clades. This makes them think of all others are inferiors - and most wish to seek no communication with them. If by some irony, Transapients ignore Superiors as the Su’s think they’re superior to them. Due to decades of inbreeding, they are starting to become sterile and their numbers dwindling unless cloning is used.

Factions:

House Alin:
House Toma:
Imperials Shadows:
Terragen Federation:
Imperial Shadows:

(This will be filled out a lot more later on).

Gods:

Gods and Goddesses that reside in The Planes are ancient archilecrts, who have achieved a point in their lifespan to transcend this plane of existence and reside within the archaic and still unknown planes. They take different forms when dealing with different species, and some Gods and Goddesses are more important to one religion or species than another, etc.

Biography:

Notes on Realism:
-No FTL, closest would be Wormhole and Alcubierre drives
-All space battles will have no sound other than coms and damages inside the ship, which gradually fade out
-Aliens will not >commonly< be bipedal. If you want to be a bipedal alien, PM me.
-Planet defense and space battles will be on several different planes, and many ships can swoop under ships to enter the planet, unless detected by turrets or something
-No fire in space.
-Artificial Gravity requires something spinning to generate centripetal force
-Inertia is required for most spaceship starts, and win hit, ship will move also unless boosters stop it from doing so.
-No instant-disintegration weapons unless on spaceships, though they would still be minor damage.

Well, peoples, it's been a fun two weeks. The judges have come to a decision. All the submissions were good, but in the end there could only be one winner.

And the winner is.....

FERRET-X!

Congratulations.

They all looked so great. I can't wait to begin playing the winning entry.
That being said, congratulations to Ferret.
